Drakkar’s Philippe Cadorette named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the regular season week ending March 16 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .958.
Cadorette earns the award for a second time this season after backstopping the Drakkar to a pair of victories last week to secure first place in the QMJHL standings with 99 points. On Friday night he stopped all 25 shots he faced and was named second star of a 4-0 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. The win was his seventh shutout of the season tying a QMJHL record held by Nick Sanza, Roberto Luongo, Adam Russo and Kevin Poulin. On Saturday he made 21 saves on home ice in a 9-2 win over the Sags to earn his 36th victory of the season setting a new franchise record surpassing Marco Cousineau’s mark of 34 from the 2007-08 season.
Cadorette, an 18-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Drakkar posting a 36-13-2-1 record tying Halifax Mooseheads’ netminder Zachary Fucale for the league lead in wins. His goals-against-average of 2.35 ranks second behind Fucale, and his save percentage of .916 is the best in the league this season.
Also considered for the award this week was Phoenix Coyotes prospect Brendan Burke of the Portland Winterhawks who posted a 3-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory with a 1.33 goals-against-average and a .950 save percentage. In the OHL, NHL Draft prospect Devin Williams of the Erie Otters won twice in two starts with a goals-against-average of 1.42 and save percentage of .943.
