Crosby named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Rimouski Oceanic centre Sidney Crosby is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 30 after scoring eight goals and three assists for 11 points in three games last week.
Crosby, who was also named CHL Player of the Week in September, scored the winning goal in all three games last week. He started the week with three goals and two assists in a 5-2 win over the PEI Rocket on January 26. He added two goals in a 5-2 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on January 28 and finished the week with three goals and an assist in a 6-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on January 30. It was Rimouski’s seventh straight win.
Julien Ellis of the Shawinigan Cataractes was the QMJHL’s defensive player of the week after posting a 2-0-1 record with a 0.83 goals against average and .973 save percentage. Corey Perry of the London Knights was the OHL player of the week after scoring seven goals and 11 points in three games and Ty Morris of the Red Deer Rebels was the WHL player of the week after scoring two goals and 11 points in four games.
