Canada falls to Czech Republic in WU18 Semi-Final
LAPPEENRANTA, Finland – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team will play for the bronze medal at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship after a 4-3 overtime loss to the Czech Republic in the semifinals.
Canada will play Sweden in the bronze medal game in Lappeenranta, Finland, on Sunday, April 27. The game that can be seen live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters, at 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.
The Czech Republic will face the United States in the gold medal game.
On Saturday, Canada was down 3-0 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the second period when Mathew Barzal (Seattle Thunderbirds) scored late in the second period while Joe Hicketts (Victoria Royals) and Daniel Audette (Sherbrooke Phoenix) scored third period goals to send the game to overtime. Mason McDonald (Charlottetown Islanders) made 29 saves in his first loss of the tournament.
Canada is attempting to win its sixth medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having won gold three times (2003, 2008, 2013), silver once (2005) and bronze once (2012)
