Campbell and Carruth Invited to USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jack Campbell of the Windsor Spitfires and Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks are among the four goaltenders named to the 2011 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp Roster.
Campbell and Carruth will join 11 other CHL players previously named to the roster and will compete for a spot on the U.S National Junior Team that will take part in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship December 26, 2011, to January 5, 2012, in Calgary and Edmonton, AB.
Campbell, a 19-year-old from Port Huron, Michigan, just completed his first OHL season with the Spitfires and is the only male goaltender in Team USA history to hold three gold medals (2009 and 2010 IIHF World Men’s U18 Championships and 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship). He also competed in the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York, where he earned a Bronze Medal with Team USA and was named by the IIHF Directorate as the Top Goaltender. Campbell was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars.
Carruth, a 19-year-old from Shorewood, Minnesota, just completed his second WHL season with the Winterhawks and is looking to earn a spot on his first U.S national team. Carruth was selected in the seventh round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The camp will take place at Lake Placid’s Olympic Center from August 6-13 and includes practices, intrasquad scrimmages and international games featuring Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
