Titan digging into new green community project
BATHURST – Titan territory is about to get a little greener. At the end of the 2021-22 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season the Acadie-Bathurst Titan will switch their hockey sticks for shovels thanks to a new Trevali-sponsored environmental project called One Goal, One Tree. The Titan will plant a tree for every goal scored this season.
“We are very happy that Trevali is jumping on board for this project with us,” said Gilles Cormier, Executive Director and Corporate Sales for the Titan. With a deep bench of seasoned veterans and talented rookies for the upcoming year, the Titan are confident there won’t be a shortage of trees planted in the city and throughout the Chaleur region.
“Trevali is excited and privileged to be part of the Titan’s ‘One Goal, One Tree’ initiative. This initiative is directly in line with our beliefs and values as a company to care for others, the environment, and the communities we touch. We are also excited for the upcoming hockey season and we are positive that with the great line-up of players, there will be a new forest in the region,” said Marie-Claude Dumont, Senior Manager Operation, Caribou Mine.
Bathurst’s project is a replica of the Rimouski Oceanic’s 2021 launch of its Un but, un arbre! environmental project. Given the positive impact of the initiative, the Titan happily decided to copy Rimouski and ‘spruce-up’ the community while they defend the bay on the ice.
“It is important for the Titan to give back to the community. The idea of the Oceanic was wonderful and we owed it to ourselves to make a push on this one and bring it to our area. It is even more interesting that the Titan’s offensive strength should be very strong this season, so we expect to have very active shovels,” said JD Boudreau, Marketing Director and Game Day Coordinator for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
“A green initiative like this is important and most welcome in our region. We congratulate the Titan organization for activating such a campaign. Furthermore, with the high-caliber team we’ll see on the ice this year, we risk having a good amount of trees planted next summer!” said Bathurst Mayor Kim Chamberlain.
