50 CHL Players Invited to 2018 NHL Scouting Combine
50 CHL players have been invited to the 2018 NHL Scouting Combine that is being held from Sunday May 27th to Saturday June 2nd at First Niagara Center and the nearby HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY.
The list of CHL invitees includes 27 forwards, 19 defencemen and four goaltenders. CHL talent represents 48% of the 104 players invited to attend the event.
Top CHL draft eligible talent invited includes Barrie Colts winger Andrei Svechnikov, Halifax Mooseheads flank Filip Zadina, highly-regarded defencemen Evan Bouchard of the London Knights and Noah Dobson of the Mastercard Memorial Cup champion Acadie-Bathurst Titan in addition to other forward names in Joe Veleno (Drummondville Voltigeurs), Barrett Hayton (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) and Serron Noel (Oshawa Generals). In goal, the highly ranked QMJHL trio of Olivier Rodrigue (Drummondville Voltigeurs), Kevin Mandolese (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles) and Alexis Gravel (Halifax Mooseheads) are all in attendance.
The NHL Scouting Combine provides an opportunity for teams to meet and interview prospects as well as see them physically tested in an off-ice setting.
Of the 50 CHL players invited, 24 come from the Ontario Hockey League, 15 come from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and 11 come from the Western Hockey League.
The highly-anticipated portion of the combine – fitness testing – is set to take place Friday and Saturday at the HarborCenter in Buffalo. Saturday’s fitness testing can be seen live on Sportsnet.ca from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET/ 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. PT.
Friday’s testing will feature four different evaluations, including y-balance, function movement screen, grip strength and aerobic fitness (VO2 max).
Saturday’s testing will feature seven different evaluations, including standing height, wingspan, standing long jump, jump station, bench press, pro agility test and pull ups.
