2026 Winter Olympics Daily: Feb. 15
Day 4 of the 2026 Winter Olympics from Milano Cortina saw Group B decided in dramatic fashion Saturday while Canada gets set to return to action Sunday.
Day 4 results (Feb. 14)
Sweden 5-3 Slovakia
Latvia 4-3 Germany
Finland 11-0 Italy
USA 6-3 Denmark
About yesterday:
Former Oshawa General Renars Krastenbergs scored the game-winner as Latvia beat Germany 4-3 for their first win of the tournament. Ex-Barrie Colt goaltender Artur Silovs (PIT) stopped 26 shots in the win. Leon Draisaitl (EDM), formerly of Prince Albert and Kelowan, had an assist in defeat while Philipp Grubauer (SEA), who suited up for Belleville, Windsor and Kingston, made 18 saves.
Slovakia fell 5-3 to Sweden in Group B action but a goal from former Sudbury Wolves forward Dalibor Dvorsky (STL) with 39 seconds left ultimately saw them top the group on goal difference. Former Edmonton Oil King d-man Martin Gernat had a goal and an assist for Slovakia while Sherbrooke Phoenix netminder Samuel Hlavaj made 46 saves.
Finland made quick work of hosts Italy in Group B for their second victory after an 11-0 win where former Portland Winterhawk blueliner Henri Jokiharju (BOS) had an assist.
Finally in Group C, the USA doubled up Denmark 6-3 where former London Knight Matthew Tkachuk (STL) and Saginaw Spirit/Plymouth Whaler Vincent Trocheck (NYR) each tallied an assist. For Denmark, former Medicine Hat Tigers netminder Mads Sogaard made 32 saves.
Day 5 schedule (Feb. 15)
Czechia vs. Switzerland – 6:10 am ET / 3:10am PT
France vs. Canada – 10:40am ET / 7:40am PT
Latvia vs. Denmark —1:10pm ET / 10:10am PT
Germany vs. USA – 3:10pm ET / 12:10pm PT
The day ahead:
A win for either Czechia or Switzerland will confirm them as the second place finisher in Group A as both teams have gone 1-1-0 thus far. Both sides fell to Canada but beat France in their first two games of the tournament.
Canada have already locked up top spot in Group A and will now look to secure the no. 1 seed for the tournament with a third straight victory. Thus far, Canada have scored 10 goals and conceded just once in wins over Czechia and Switzerland.
Latvia will look for its second straight win when they face Denmark in Group C action. A win for Latvia will see them claim second spot in Group B while Denmark are after its first win of the competition.
The round-robin concludes in Group C when the USA battle Germany. A win for the USA will see them move to 3-0-0 and potentially join Canada as the only two teams to go unbeaten. Germany are essentially locked into third place; a win in regulation and defeat for Latvia will see them lose the head-to-head tiebreaker but if Latvia fails to win and Germany does, they’d jump into second place.
