Armada’s Etienne Marcoux named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Etienne Marcoux of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 27 after posting a 3-0-1-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .940.
Marcoux stopped 125 shots in four games for the Armada helping the club rebound from a 2-0 series deficit in the QMJHL Semi-Finals against the first place Baie-Comeau Drakkar. When the series shifted to home ice Marcoux posted back-to-back first star performances for the Armada including a 30-save effort last Tuesday in a 4-1 victory in Game 3, then a 28-save effort on Wednesday in a 4-2 victory over the Drakkar in Game 4 to tie the series. In Games 5 and 6, Marcoux and the Armada were on both sides of 3-2 overtime decisions including a victory on Friday night to take a 3-2 series lead where he stopped 29 shots in the win, before falling to the Drakkar on Sunday where he made 38 saves as second star of the contest. Game 7 of the series takes place Tuesday night with the winner advancing to the QMJHL Finals for the President Cup.
Marcoux, a 20-year-old from La Plaine, Quebec, is playing in his fifth and final QMJHL season. So far during the 2014 QMJHL Playoffs he has 10 wins posting a goals-against-average of 2.30 and a save percentage of .916 while leading all QMJHL goaltenders with 482 saves.
Also considered for the award this week was Justin Nichols of the Guelph Storm who went 2-1 including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.82 and save percentage of .947 helping the Storm advance to the OHL Championship Series with a five-game series win over the Erie Otters. Corbin Boes of the Portland Winterhawks went 3-0 with a goals-against-average of 2.22 and save percentage of .932 backstopping the Winterhawks to their fourth straight appearance in the WHL Finals with a five-game series win over the Kelowna Rockets.
