Bulls’ Malcolm Subban Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Boston Bruins prospect Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 24 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .952.
Subban stopped 99 shots in three games helping the Bulls extend their winning-streak to a season-high nine straight games. Last Monday afternoon he picked up his third shutout of the season making 29 saves as second star of a 3-0 win over the Barrie Colts. He continued his strong play on Saturday with 36 saves in a 5-2 win over the Peterborough Petes, then wrapped up the week on Sunday with 34 saves in a 6-3 win over the Ottawa 67’s.
Subban, a 19-year-old from Rexdale, ON, is playing in his third full OHL season with the Bulls. Selected by the Bruins in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Subban has the OHL’s lowest goals-against-average with a mark of 2.22 and is among the league leaders with a .931 save percentage.
Also considered for the award this week was Alexandre Bélanger of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies who posted a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .934. In the WHL, Marek Langhamer of the Medicine Hat Tigers went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory along with a goals-against-average of 0.48 and save percentage of .985.
