Sting’s JP Anderson Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that JP Anderson of the Sarnia Sting is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after setting a new OHL record for career wins with 115. During the week ending December 9, he posted a 2-0-0-1 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.97 and save percentage of .973.
Anderson stopped 107 shots and was named first star in all three Sting games this past week. He tied the OHL record for career wins picking up his 114th victory on Thursday night while posting his first shutout of the season making 42 saves as part of a 3-0 win over the Saginaw Spirit. On Friday night he made 36 saves despite a 3-2 shootout loss to the Windsor Spitfires before earning career win number 115 Sunday on home ice with 29 saves in a 4-1 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Anderson surpasses former Greyhound netminder Kyle Gajewski who won 114 games with the club between 2004-08.
Anderson, a 20-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season. Signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks, Anderson carries a record of 15-9-0-3 so far this season with a goals-against-average of 2.90 and save percentage of .913.
Also considered for the award this week was Cole Cheveldave of the Kamloops Blazers who went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory for a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .974, while rookie Marvin Cupper of the Shawinigan Cataractes also went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory but posted a goals-against-average of 0.96 and save percentage of .962.
