Moose Jaw Warriors trade Collin Bowman and Joey Kornelsen to the Calgary Hitmen for Kenton Miller, Justin Kirsh and a 4th-round pick in 2012 WHL Draft.
Moose Jaw, SK.— The Warriors have acquired 20yr old Kenton Miller and 19yr old Justin Kirsch from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for 20 yr old Collin Bowman, 18yr old Joey Kornelsen and a 4th round pick in the 2012 Bantam Draft.
Standing 6’0” and weighing 191lbs, Miller hails from Redvers, SK. Last season with the Spokane Chiefs Kenton notched 10 goals and added 18 assists in 28 games before being acquired by the Hitmen in July of this year. This season Kenton has managed 3 goals in 11 games with Calgary.
6,2”, 173lb Justin Kirsch played in 66 games for the Hitmen last season racking up 25 goals and 17 assists for a 42 point total. This season in just 10 games, Justin, who hails from Chilliwack, BC, has registered 3 goals and 2 assists.
Both players will be joining the tribe immediately and are expected to practice with the team tomorrow.
Calgary, AB – Calgary Hitmen General Manager, Executive VP and Alternate Governor Kelly Kisio announced today the team has acquired 18-year-old center Joey Kornelsen, 20-year-old defenceman Collin Bowman and a fourth round pick in 2012 in exchange for 19-year-old forward Justin Kirsch and 20-year-old center Kenton Miller.
“We needed a puck-moving defenceman for our powerplay and to add young talent up front,” said Kisio. “This deal accomplishes both of those needs. We would like to thank Justin and Kenton for their time in Calgary and wish them success with the Warriors.”
Kirsch joined the Hitmen in 2009 and over three seasons of play registered 55 points (30g 25a) in 110 games. The 6’2” 173lbs. forward earned 25 of his 30 career goals last season.
After three campaigns with the Spokane Chiefs, the Hitmen claimed Miller off waivers during the 2011-12 offseason. The 6’0” 191lbs. center recorded three goals in 11 games played for Calgary.
Since his 2008 WHL debut, Kornelsen had played his entire career with Moose Jaw, scoring 15 goals and recording 22 assists in 118 regular season games played.
Last season, Bowman appeared in 72 regular season games and earned 49 points (11g 38a) with the Warriors. The 6’2” 200lbs. defenceman has earned five points (4g 1a) in seven games played this season.
Calgary wraps up a three-game home stand on Saturday, October 29 when they host the Everett Silvertips for the Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer game. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Seattle Thunderbirds trade Erik Fleming to the Swift Current Broncos for a 10th-round pick in 2012 WHL Draft.
Kent, WA – Seattle Thunderbirds general manger Russ Farwell today announced the team has traded defenseman Erik Fleming to the Swift Current Broncos for future considerations in the 2012 Bantam Draft.
Fleming appeared in 156 games for the T-Birds over the last three seasons and had 15 points career point on two goals and 13 assists with 62 penalty minutes.
The T-Birds also reassigned defenseman Austin Frank to the Calgary Mustangs of the Albert Junior Hockey League today.
The T-Birds travel to Victoria to take on the Cougars in back-to-back games this weekend. They play Friday and Saturday nights at 7:05pm at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.
The T-Birds are back home at ShoWare Center in Kent on Tuesday, November 1, to face the Vancouver Giants at 7:05pm
Swift Current, SK – Swift Current Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb has announced that the club has acquired defenceman Erik Fleming from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for future considerations in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
Fleming has tallied one assist in one game played so far this season with the Thunderbirds. The 6’1”, 206lbs. native of Calgary, AB recorded three assists in 50 games played last season. He was drafted by Seattle in the 1st round, 16th overall of the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.
“He (Fleming) is a veteran defenceman with a lot of experience in the Western Hockey League”, states Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb. “He will bring a lot of value and depth to our team’s young defence.”

Portland Winterhawks trade Adam Smith to the Swift Current Broncos for Dillon Wagner.
Portland, OR — The Portland Winterhawks have acquired right winger Dillon Wagner from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for forward Adam Smith, who had been playing in the British Columbia Hockey League this season while on the team’s protected list
Wagner, 20, has spent his entire career in Swift Current. In 163 career games beginning in the 2008-09 season, Wagner has registered 28 goals and 25 assists for 53 points. He’s added three points in seven playoff games. With the addition of Wagner, the Winterhawks have used all three available 20-year-old spots on the roster. Charles Wells and team captain William Wrenn are the other two 20-year-olds.
Smith was selected by Portland in the ninth round of the 2009 Bantam Draft, and played two games for the Winterhawks last season. The Winterhawks reassigned Smith to the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL prior to the season.
“Dillon is a high-character player who will bring veteran leadership to our team,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “We’re excited to add him as he will be a great fit with our team both on and off the ice.”
Swift Current, SK – Swift Current Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb has announced that the club has traded veteran forward, Dillon Wagner to the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for Winterhawks’ prospect forward Adam Smith.
Smith was selected 178th overall by the Portland Winterhawks in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. The 6’2”, 180lbs. product of Nanaimo, BC has played in six games with the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL so far this season where he has recorded one assist. Last season, he tallied three points (1G, 2A) in 30 games played with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL.
Wagner will be leaving Swift Current after playing over three seasons with the Broncos. He was drafted 125th overall by the Broncos in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft. In 163 games played so far in his WHL career he has recorded 28 goals and 25 assists.
“Through this trade we have added a ’94 born player to our team.” States Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb. “It is tough to say good bye to Wagner as he has been with the Broncos for such a long time and has been a big part of the team’s foundation, but this is an incredible opportunity for him as Portland has a very strong team and will likely go far this season”.
