WHL THIS WEEK: LOOKING AHEAD…
Calgary, AB – The 2010-11 Western Hockey League regular season enters its fourth weekend of action in the New Year with a busy schedule of 26 games set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In Edmonton, AB, the Oil Kings welcome the Hanson Brothers at Friday’s contest versus the Moose Jaw Warriors. The famous brothers from the movie ‘Slap Shot’ will be signing Charlestown Chiefs jerseys which will be auctioned off to benefit the Oil Kings’ Education Fund.
In Everett, WA, the Silvertips will host their second Tip a ‘Tip Night on Monday, January 24th. The entire ‘Tips team will act as hosts, servers, doormen and emcees at Boston’s – Smokey Point/Marysville location in an effort to raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs in Snohomish County.
In Kamloops, B.C., the Blazers will hold their Blueliner Breakfast on Sunday. Fans can enjoy a hearty breakfast alongside their favorite Blazers players.
In Saskatoon, SK, Blades fans will see the much-anticipated debut of hometown star Brayden Schenn on Saturday night when the Blades host the Calgary Hitmen. Schenn, a Los Angeles Kings prospect, was acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings at the WHL trade deadline, but has been sidelined with an injury since returning from Canada’s National Junior team.

REGINA’S MYLES BELL BOASTS HARDEST SHOT…
Toronto, ON – Team Orr opened the 2011 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects festivities with a thrilling 12-11 win in the Skills Competition Tuesday night at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Defenseman Myles Bell of the Regina Pats won the event’s Hardest Shot competition, blasting a shot that clocked in at 98.4 MPH on the radar gun.

FRIDAY NIGHT WHL HOCKEY ON SHAW…
Dylan Wruck and the Edmonton Oil Kings (22-21-0-2) welcome Quinton Howden and the Moose Jaw Warriors (28-17-0-2) in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.
Friday’s contest between the Oil Kings and Warriors can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW and SHAW Direct channel 299 (7:00pm MST).
The Oil Kings suffered a 4-3 loss to the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook on Tuesday for their second straight defeat, and currently sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Oil Kings are an even 3-3 over their last six games at home. Wruck scored twice in Tuesday’s loss to the Ice, giving him 15 goals in his last 15 games.
The Warriors blanked the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-0 on Wednesday night for their third straight triumph, and currently sit tied on points with Medicine Hat for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The Warriors are 7-2-0-1 over their last 10 games on the road. Howden has scored five goals and six points over his last four outings.
It’s the third of four meetings this season between the Warriors and Oil Kings. The teams split the first two meetings, with the home team winning by a 3-2 score line on each occasion.

KEY WEEKEND MATCH-UPS…
Spokane Chiefs vs Kootenay Ice
Friday, Jan. 21
Brenden Kichton and the Spokane Chiefs host Matt Fraser and the Kootenay Ice for a match-up between Western and Eastern Conference elites on Friday night.
The Ice will be looking to exact some revenge after an tough 11-2 loss to the Chiefs in the Rockstar Outdoor Hockey Classic last Saturday at Avista Stadium in Spokane. Kootenay bounced back from Saturday’s thrashing with a 4-3 win over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday, and currently share the Central Division lead with Red Deer. Fraser has racked up three goals and 10 points over his last four games.
The Chiefs posted a 6-1 win in Chilliwack over the Bruins on Tuesday for their third straight victory, and continue to hold down top spot in the Western Conference. The Chiefs have outscored their opposition 21-4 over their last three games. Kichton leads all WHL defenseman with 36 assists, and leads all WHL players with a +38 rating this season.
It’s the fourth of five meetings this season between the Ice and Chiefs. The Chiefs hold a 2-1 edge in the season series.
Red Deer Rebels vs Moose Jaw Warriors
Saturday, Jan. 22
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the Red Deer Rebels welcome Dylan Hood and the Moose Jaw Warriors for a clash between Eastern Conference powers on Saturday.
The Rebels are coming off a 5-1 win in Swift Current over the Broncos last Sunday for their fifth consecutive victory, and currently share first place in the Central Division with Kootenay. The Rebels have outscored their opponents by a 23-3 score line over their last five games. Nugent-Hopkins was named the Player of the Game for Team Orr in the 2011 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday in Toronto.
The Warriors are coming off a 4-0 win over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday for their third win in a row, and are currently tied on points with Medicine Hat for fourth place in the Eastern Conference – just five points back of Red Deer. The Warriors have scored the second-highest number of goals of any Eastern Conference team this season.
It’s the third of four meetings between the teams this season. The Rebels won both previous meetings versus the Warriors, with both wins coming in Moose Jaw.
The Rebels take on the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Friday and the Warriors are in Edmonton to face the Oil Kings on Friday before Saturday’s head-to-head match-up.
