WOOLGER NETS HAT TRICK IN HAWKS WIN – Brian Woolger (pictured) scored three times to lead the visiting Portland Winter Hawks to a 5-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers in one of two Western Hockey League contests on Sunday, September 25th.

rBrandon Dubinsky and Michael Sauer each chipped in a goal and an assist for the Hawks (2-0-0-0), who win their second straight to open the season, while Sasha Golin added a pair of assists. Dustin Butler turned in a 29-save effort for his second win of the season.

rRoman Tesliuk and Matt Kassian scored for the Blazers (1-1-0-0) in the loss while Reid Jorgensen chipped in two assists. Devan Dubnyk stopped 15 of 20 shots in a losing effort in his first start of the season.

rElsewhere on Sunday, Swedish rookie Fredrik Petterson scored twice and added an assist to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

rBrodie Dupont and Steve Covington each added a goal and an assist for the Hitmen (2-0-0-0) while Riley Merkley also scored in the win. Justin Pogge stopped 18 of 19 shots for his second win of the season.

rShaden Moore scored the lone goal for the Rebels (0-2-0-0), who were outscored 9-3 in two opening-weekend contests versus the Hitmen. Andrew Leslie and James Reimer combined for 25 saves in the defeat.

r-Rod Lavoie of the Prince Albert Raiders has been suspended for one game for his actions at Swift Current on September 24th.

r-Myles Zimmer of the Prince George Cougars has been suspended for one game for receiving a major penalty and game misconduct for spearing versus Seattle on September 23rd. The suspension has been served.

r-Dallas Thompson, General Manager of the Prince George Cougars, has been fined $500.00 for his actions on September 23rd.
