WHL HEADLINES
KELOWNA @ BRANDON TONIGHT – Ryan Stone (pictured) and the Brandon Wheat Kings welcome Tyler Spurgeon and the Kelowna Rockets tonight in game three of the Western Hockey League championship series.
r
rTonight’s contest can be seen throughout western Canada on SHAW, and in Portland on Comcast (7:00 p.m. CDT).
r
rThe Wheat Kings dropped the first two games of the best-of-seven series in Kelowna on the weekend and need a victory on home ice to climb back into the series. Brandon has been very good at home through the post-season, with an 8-2 record in 10 playoff games at the Keystone Centre. The Wheat Kings’ power play has been deadly on home ice, connecting 13 times on 49 man-advantage chances at home in the post-season. Stone leads all playoff table-setters with 22 assists.
r
rThe Rockets, meanwhile, find themselves just two victories shy of their second WHL championship in three years and their third straight Memorial Cup appearance. The Rockets’ defence held Brandon’s offence – the league’s most potent – to just one goal over the first two games of the series. Kelowna is 6-3 on the road in the post-season and has outscored their opposition 28-14 away from home. Rookie netminder Kristofer Westblom earned his first career playoff win in Saturday’s 4-1 game two victory in Kelowna.
r
rBrandon hosts game four of the series on Wednesday night.
