WHL PLAYOFFS FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP – Shea Weber scored twice – including the game-winner with only 1:13 remaining in regulation – and added an assist to lead the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a 4-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice in game one of the Kal Tire Western conference championship series last night in Cranbrook.

rBlake Comeau also scored twice and added an assist for the Rockets, who grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, while Tyler Mosienko chipped in a pair of assists in the victory. Netminder Derek Yeomans turned aside 23 of 25 shots for his ninth win of the post-season.

rJames Cherewyk and Adam Cracknell scored for the Ice, who see their seven-game playoff win streak snapped, while Nigel Dawes chipped in two helpers in a losing cause. Jeff Glass turned aside 35 of 38 shots in the defeat.

rElsewhere on Friday, Eric Fehr scored the game-winner and added a pair of assists to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders in game one of their Eastern conference championship series.

rTim Konsorada netted a pair of goals and Ryan Stone added a goal and an assist for the Wheat Kings, who, with the win, take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, while Lance Monych also tallied two assists in the victory. Tyler Plante stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced for his fourth straight playoff victory.

rKyle Chipchura scored once and added an assist and Dane Byers also tallied for the Raiders – down 0-1 in the series – while Aki Seitsonen chipped in a pair of assists in a losing effort. Rejean Beauchemin stopped 28 of 32 shots he faced in the defeat.
