HITMEN ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND – Andrew Ladd (pictured) scored 4:02 into overtime to lead the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 2-1 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in game five of their first-round series last night.

rWith the victory, the Hitmen win the best-of-seven series four games to one and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

rTyrel Lucas also scored for the Hitmen, who win their fourth straight game in the series, while Ryan Getzlaf chipped in two assists. Justin Pogge made 27 saves for the victory while Ladd’s overtime marker was his second straight extra-frame winner and his league-leading fifth tally of the post-season.

rKyle Pess scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes who, with the defeat, are eliminated from the post-season, while Aaron Sorochan made 34 saves in a losing cause.

rElsewhere last night, Jeff Topilko‘s second-period marker stood up as the winner as the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3 in game four of their first-round match-up.
