WHL PLAYOFFS MONDAY RECAP – Brett Novak scored the winner as the visiting Prince Albert Raiders got by the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 last night, giving them a 3-0 lead in their first-round East division series.

rBrad Erickson and Jeff May also scored for the Raiders while netminder Rejean Beauchemin stopped 24 of 26 shots for the victory. The win leaves the Raiders one victory shy of advancing to the second round.

rDaniel Waschuk and Aaron Bader scored for the Blades while Ryan Cyr made 32 saves in a losing cause. The loss leaves the Blades on the brink of elimination heading into game four of the series in Prince Albert on Wednesday.

rElsewhere last night, Aaron Gagnon scored 12:38 into the third period to lift the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans, giving them a 2-0 lead in their first-round U.S. division series.

rMitch Fadden also scored for the T-Birds while Bryan Bridges made 32 saves for the victory. The Thunderbirds went 1-for-6 on the power play in last night’s victory.

rAndy Thompson scored the lone goal for the Ams while Carey Price had another busy night in net, stopping 39 of 41 shots he faced in a losing cause. The Ams will try and climb back into the best-of-seven series when they host game three on Wednesday.
