WHL WEDNESDAY NIGHT RECAP – Jakub Sindel scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 8-0 rout of the visiting Saskatoon Blades in one of seven Western Hockey League contests on Wednesday night.

rRyan Stone, Eric Fehr and Steven Later each tallied a goal and an assist for the Wheat Kings while Tyler Plante stopped 19 shots for his fifth shutout of the season. The victory extends Brandon’s winning streak to 13 games and improves them to 39-19-5-1, giving them a five-point cushion over the Blades for the East division lead.

rRyan Cyr and Russel Monette combined for 29 saves in a losing effort for the Blades. The loss – the Blades’ third straight – sees them fall to 34-21-5-6 and they remain second in the East division.

rElsewhere last night, Konstantin Pushkarev‘s third-period marker stood up as the winner as the Calgary Hitmen hung on for a 2-1 victory over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.

rTyrel Lucas also tallied for the Hitmen, who pick up their first win over the Tigers this season, while Justin Pogge turned in a 27-save effort. The win improves the Hitmen to 33-21-8-4 and leaves them just two points behind the Tigers for second in the Central division.

rJarret Lukin scored the lone goal for the Tigers while Matt Keetley made 26 saves in the defeat. The loss leaves the Tigers at 37-20-4-2 and second in the Central division.

rBrent Howarth, Justin Keller and Troy Bodie also scored for the Rockets, who win their fifth straight contest, while Kristofer Westblom stopped 27 shots for the victory. The win improves the Rockets to 40-12-11-2 and gives them a three-point cushion over Kootenay for the B.C. division lead.

rJeff Lynch scored the lone goal for the Chiefs while Jim Watt made 31 saves in a losing cause. The defeat leaves the Chiefs at 22-31-8-2 and drops them two points back of Tri-Cities for fourth in the U.S. division.
