WHL Graduate Mike Reich commits with the St. Thomas University Tommies
A new Western Hockey League recruit to the Tommies men’s hockey team is expected to be a thorn in the side of opponents this coming season.
Mike Reich, a 5’11” left winger, from Craik, Saskatchewan, will join the Tommies for the 2009-2010 season. Reich finished the 2008-09 season in the East Coast Hockey League where he played for the Florida Everblades.
“Coming to St. Thomas will be a great athletic and academic opportunity for me,” said Reich.
“I look forward to being around the other players and being coached by Mike Eagles, who has a tremendous amount of experience. Moving east will be a life-changing experience and I also look forward to furthering my education,” added Reich.
Tommies men’s hockey head coach and athletic director Mike Eagles said that Reich’s professional and major junior experience will add to the Tommies roster.
After five seasons in the Western Hockey League, Reich finished his major junior career with the Saskatoon Blades. A hard-nosed forward, Eagles expects Reich to be welcomed by his teammate and a thorn in the side of his opponents.
“Mike will be a tremendous asset to our program,” said Eagles.
“He played five years in the WHL and finished last year with Florida in the ECHL. He is very competitive and will add a tremendous amount of energy to our team. He is a strong leader and has a good skill level. We are very excited that he has committed to our program,” he added.
