WHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ON ROOT SPORTS
Calgary, AB. – The Western Hockey League (WHL) announced today that ROOT SPORTS will carry the 2012 WHL Championship Series in High Definition between the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Champion Portland Winterhawks and the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Champion Edmonton Oil Kings. The telecasts will be produced by SHAW Communications and have been provided by the WHL to ROOT SPORTS to broaden the reach of the final season series to the network’s more than 3.7 million homes across the Pacific Northwest .
The Oil Kings and Winterhawks will now face off in a best-of-seven series for the chance to hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup and earn a berth to the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament in Shawinigan, Quebec, where they will join the host Shawinigan Cataractes as well as the OHL and QMJHL Champions.

The Western Hockey League (WHL) is the largest major junior hockey League in the world today with 22 member Clubs throughout the U.S. Pacific Northwest and Western Canada.
