Wheat Kings’ Boyle signs wih the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals
NORFOLK, VA – The Norfolk Admirals have signed former Brandon Wheat King captain Daryl Boyle to a one-year American Hockey League Standard Player’s Contract, Admirals General Manager Claude Loiselle announced today.
r
rBoyle, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound defenseman, made his professional debut with the Admirals on April 2 at Philadelphia. The 21-year-old native of Lethbridge, Alberta, played the final six games of Norfolk’s 2007-08 season under an Amateur Tryout Contract, registering a +3 rating with two penalty minutes.
r
r”We are excited to sign Daryl Boyle,” said Loiselle. “He played six games with us last season and fit in well with the team – particularly being paired with Vladimir Mihalik on defense. He handles himself well under pressure and thinks the game well. If Daryl continues to progress, he has a great chance to play in the National Hockey League.”
r
rPrior to joining the Admirals, Boyle skated in his fourth season with the Wheat Kings, serving as their team captain. In 61 games this season, the 21-year-old notched ten goals and 31 assists while registering 74 penalty minutes, six power play goals and a +16 rating. He was named Brandon’s team MVP and top defenseman after leading all Wheat Kings defensemen in scoring this season.
r
rBoyle scored 31 goals and 131 points in 262 games for the Wheat Kings. In 47 playoff games, he had three goals and 17 points.
r
rBoyle’s teammates in Norfolk this past April included former Wheat King and fellow Lethbridge product Robert Klinkhammer.
