Warriors’ Jett Woo inks three-year, entry-level contract with Vancouver Cancuks

Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Jett Woo has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks.

The 18-year-old product of Winnipeg, Man. was selected by the Canucks in the second round, 37th overall, at the 2018 NHL Draft. He’s the seventh WHL player from the 2018 draft class to sign a three-year, entry-level contract.

Woo is producing career-best totals with the Warriors this season, recording 63 points (12G-51A), including three power-play goals and one game-winning goal, in 61 games.

The 6-foot-0, 203-pound rearguard currently ranks sixth in WHL defensive scoring. His 12 goals rank in a tie for ninth while his 51 assists rank fifth among WHL defencemen.

He made his debut with the Warriors in the 2015-16 WHL Regular Season after being selected fourth overall at the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. He appeared in seven games that season, making his debut September 26, 2015 against the Regina Pats. He would pick up the first point of his WHL career, an assist, March 4, 2016 in his home province against the Brandon Wheat Kings. He’d score the first goal of his WHL career the following season on September 30, 2016 against the Red Deer Rebels.

To date, Woo has appeared in 177 WHL regular season games, totalling 11 points (26G-85A), including six power-play goals and three game-winning goals. Woo has also appeared in 26 WHL Playoff games, posting seven points (2G-5A).

This season, Woo had an eight-game point streak from November 24 to December 8, 2018 with 13 points (3G-10A). He was named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending December 9, 2018.

Woo and the Warriors will end the regular season portion of their schedule Saturday, March 16 (7:00 p.m. MT) when they play host to the Swift Current Broncos. The Warriors will then matchup against the Saskatoon Blades in the first round of the 2019 #WHLPlayoffs.
