WHL Grad of the Month: University Cup MVP Legault named WHL Grad of the Month

Edmonton, Alta. – After helping the Alberta Golden Bears to the program’s 16th University Cup title, former Edmonton Oil King Stephane Legault has been named the Canada West WHL Graduate of the Month for March.
Legault, who suited up in 228 Western Hockey League games over three-plus seasons with Edmonton, played a starring role for the Bears during their run to the Canada West championship and subsequent U SPORTS national title.
The fourth-year forward had a goal and an assist during Alberta’s sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West Final back on March 2-3, before adding two goals and five assists at the University Cup in Fredericton, N.B. March 16-18.
Legault exploded for a season-high five points (1G – 4A) in Alberta’s national quarter-final win over the Acadia Axemen last weekend. He then assisted on the game-winning goal in the semis, as the Bears stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Saskatchewan 3-2 in overtime.
The Business student capped of his U Cup by sparking another Alberta comeback, this time in the national final, as he opened the scoring for the Bears, who overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the StFX X-Men 4-2.
Thanks to his seven-point weekend in Fredericton, Legault was named the tournament’s MVP, as the Bears and their 25 WHL graduates skated to their third national title in the last five seasons.
A product of the South Side Athletic Club in Edmonton, Legault finished the 2017-18 season with 13 goals and 29 assists during a combined 35 regular season, playoff, and U Cup games.
