Silvertips Hart named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for March 2018.
Hart, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. In the month of March, Hart was once again tough to beat, going 9-2-0-1, with a 1.96 goals-against-average, .930 save percentage and one shutout.
The strong month helped the Silvertips clinch the U.S. Division, the top record in the Western Conference, and a first round victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
In the regular season, Hart had a 5-2-0-0 record, 1.95 GAA, and a .917 SV% for the Silvertips. He stopped 154 of 167 shots and allowed two goals or fewer in six of his seven appearances during the regular season.
Against the Seattle Thunderbirds in the first round of the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Hart stepped up his game, going 4-0-1-0 in the series while maintaining a 1.97 GAA, .938 SV% and one shutout. Hart provided the exclamation point in the series with a 36-save shutout against the Thunderbirds on home ice Saturday.
In 32 career playoffs games, Hart has now compiled a 15-12-5-0 record, 2.30 GAA, .924 SV% and three shutouts. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound product of Sherwood Park, Alta. has appeared in 190 career WHL regular season games, sporting a 116-46-10-12 record, 2.01 GAA, .927 SV% and 26 shutouts.
Nearing the end of the first round of the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Hart leads all goaltenders in GAA and SV% while sitting in a tie for first in wins and shutouts.
He was twice named the first star of the game, while also being named the WHL’s first star of the night once. He was recently named as the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 1, the sixth time this season he’s earned the award. March’s award for Hart is the fourth time in six months he’s earned Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month honour.
Hart was recently named to the Western Conference First All-Star Team and was named the 2017-18 Western Conference’s Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year.
The Silvertips will now await the conclusion of the series between the Portland Winterhawks and Spokane Chiefs to determine their second round opponent in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.
