Rebels forward Andersen named Tempo WHL Player of the Week fuelled by Co-op
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today Red Deer Rebels forward Poul Andersen has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week fuelled by Co-op for the week ending Sunday, October 4.
Andersen, a 19-year-old right winger from St. Louis Park, Minn., recorded eight points (6G-2A) and a plus-5 rating, helping the Rebels go 2-1-0-0 on an East Division road trip this past week.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Andersen recorded an assist Wednesday, September 30, in a 4-1 loss at Prince Albert.
On Friday, October 2, Andersen was named second star of the game after recording two goals in a 4-2 win at Saskatoon. A mere 3:29 into the first period, Andersen found the back of the net to give Red Deer a 2-0 advantage. He followed up less than three minutes later with his second goal of the evening, putting the Rebels in front for good. Andersen’s second goal of the evening went on to stand as the game winner.
Andersen exploded Saturday, October 3, registering four goals and an assist in a 5-2 triumph over the Moose Jaw Warriors. Once again, Andersen was in the mix early, setting up Kaden Meyer to open the scoring 3:35 into the first period. After Moose Jaw tied the game, Andersen tallied his fourth goal of the season to restore the lead for the visitors. With 5:51 to go in the second period, Andersen converted on a power-play opportunity to put Red Deer in front 3-2. He added an insurance marker with 3:37 to go in the second period, before depositing one more into an empty net late in the third period. At the end of the night, Andersen had factored into all five Red Deer goals and was named first star of the game.
Andersen’s four-goal effort is the first of its kind during the 2026-27 WHL regular season. It’s also the first four-goal game by a Rebel since Ty Coupland registered four goals March 1, 2025, in a 10-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets.
With 14 points in seven games, Andersen leads the WHL in scoring, ranking three points ahead of teammate and Colorado Avalanche prospect Beckett Hamilton (5G-6A–11 points). Andersen’s seven goals are also tops in the WHL, ranking two goals ahead of Hamilton, Hunter Laing of the Saskatoon Blades, Ben Harvey of the Prince Albert Raiders, and Carter Sanderson of the Calgary Hitmen.
Andersen is riding a seven-game point-scoring streak to start the season – best across the WHL.
Unselected in the WHL Draft, Andersen signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Edmonton Oil Kings on February 21, 2025. He was acquired by the Rebels as part of the return for Dallas Stars prospect Jaxon Fuder on December 27, 2025.
In 71 career WHL regular season games, Andersen has collected 60 points (32G-28A), including 44 points (21G-23A) in 43 games since joining the Rebels.
Andersen and the Rebels (4-2-0-1) sit atop the WHL’s Eastern Conference coming out of the weekend. They return home for three games, beginning Friday, October 9, when the Calgary Hitmen (4-1-0-0) visit the Marchant Crane Centrium. Stream the action FREE on YouTube.
