Rebels captain Barteaux signs three-year, entry-level deal with Dallas Stars
Red Deer Rebels captain Dawson Barteaux has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars, the National Hockey League team announced Thursday. Barteaux was chosen by the Stars in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Tasked with leading the Rebels’ when he was named team captain in late August 2019, Barteaux has provided strength and stability on the team’s backend throughout the past three seasons.
Originally selected 14th overall by the Regina Pats at the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Barteaux posted career-high totals in goals and points in the 2018-19 season. His 34 points (7G-27A), including six power-play goals, in 67 games was second among all Rebels defencemen. He added two assists in four games during the 2019 WHL Playoffs.
The Rebels acquired the 6-foot-1, 190-pound product of Foxwarren, Man. from the Pats on January 10, 2017 as part of an eight-piece deal that saw Anaheim Ducks prospect Josh Mahura head the other way.
For his WHL career, Barteaux has appeared in 176 WHL regular season games between the Pats and Rebels, posting 70 points (10G-60A), including nine power-play goals and one game-winning goal. He’s also added five assists in 12 WHL playoff games with the Rebels.
Barteaux and the Rebels are on the road in action Friday, September 27 (7:00 p.m. MT) against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
