AMERICANS BLANK THUNDERBIRDS – Eric Comrie made 16 saves to post his third shutout of the season as the Tri-City Americans skated to a 4-0 win over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League action on Tuesday night.
Jesse Mychan, Mason Wilgosh, Patrick Holland and Justin Feser also scored while Adam Hughesman, Jordan Messier and Brendan Shinnimin each picked up two assists for the Americans (34-10-0-0), who improve to 19-2 on home ice this season while snapping a two-game losing skid.
Calvin Pickard turned in a 36-save effort in a losing cause for the Thunderbirds (17-24-0-1), who have been shut out three times over their last eight outings.
HURRICANES 6, GIANTS 3
Phil Tot scored twice and set up three more for a five-point outing as the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes doubled up the Vancouver Giants 6-3 on Tuesday.
Jay Merkley also scored twice while Jaimen Yakubowski also counted for the Hurricanes (17-29-0-1), who scored the game’s last three goals en route to snapping a three-game losing skid. Liam Liston turned in a 38-save performance to post the victory.
Jordan Martinook, Blake Orban – with his first WHL goal – and Marek Tvrdon scored for the Giants (26-17-1-1), who suffer their third loss in a row on home ice. Jackson Whistle made 30 saves in a losing cause.
HITMEN 5, REBELS 1
Alex Gogolev scored a pair of goals to pace the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 5-1 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday.
Greg Chase notched a goal and a pair of assists while Joe Kornelsen and Chase Clayton also scored for the Hitmen (25-16-2-1), who extend their winning streak to eight games and now sit just two points out of third place in the Eastern Conference. Brandon Glover turned in a 29-save effort to claim his 14th win of the season.
Matt Dumba scored the only goal for the Rebels (19-20-1-4), who suffer their second loss in a row and fall below the .500 mark. Deven Dubyk made 29 saves in the setback.
BRONCOS 3, ROYALS 1
Taylor Vause scored his 24th goal of the season and added an assist to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-1 triumph over the visiting Victoria Royals on Tuesday.
Brad Hoban and Reece Scarlett also scored while Richard Nedomlel picked up two assists for the Broncos (18-22-2-3), who earn their second win in a row. Jon Groenheyde turned aside 38 of 39 shots he faced to claim the win.
Robin Soudek scored the lone marker for the Royals (14-26-2-3), who suffer their 11th defeat over their last 12 games and remain in ninth place in the Western Conference. Keith Hamilton made 25 saves in the defeat.
