OIL KINGS HOLD OFF CHIEFS – Dylan Wruck scored twice and Laurent Brossoit stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced to lead the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 4-1 win over the visiting Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League action on Tuesday.
Michael St. Croix tallied a goal and two assists while Cody Corbett also scored for the Oil Kings (16-8-1-2), who were outshot 30-19 by the visiting Chiefs. The Oil Kings have now won four straight, moving them into a tie with Medicine Hat for second place in the Central Division.
Corbin Baldwin scored the lone marker for the Chiefs (11-8-1-2), who suffer their third straight setback and remain winless on the road this season. Mac Engel made 15 saves in the loss.
GIANTS 4, WARRIORS 3 S/O
Matt Bellerive scored the lone goal in the fifth round of a shootout to lift the visiting Vancouver Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday.
Jordan Martinook scored twice and Dalton Sward added a single while Marek Tvrdon and Brendan Gallagher each picked up two assists for the Giants (17-9-1-1), who improve to 2-0-1 through three games of their East Division road trip. Adam Morrison made 31 saves through regulation and overtime, and wasn’t beaten in the shootout to claim his 14th win of the season for the Giants.
Quinton Howden – with a goal and an assist – Eric Arnold and Cody Beach scored for the Warriors (16-8-2-1), who suffer their first shootout loss of the season. Luke Siemens turned aside 22 shots in regulation, but was beaten once in the shootout to take the loss.
HURRICANES 3, REBELS 1
Brody Sutter scored twice and set up another to lead the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday.
Cam Braes scored his 11th goal of the season for the Hurricanes (7-20-0-1), who improve to 4-2 over their last six outings but remain in sixth spot in the Central Division. Damien Ketlo turned in a 25-save effort to post the victory.
Colten Mayor scored the only goal for the Rebels (14-8-0-3), who drop their sixth straight decision and remain in fourth place in the Central Division. Bolton Pouliot made 28 saves in a losing cause.
THUNDERBIRDS 4, BRONCOS 1
Chance Lund scored his eighth goal of the season as the Seattle Thunderbirds overcame a 2-1 deficit late in the third period to post a 4-2 win over the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday.
Sean Aschim, Shea Theodore and Burke Gallimore also scored for the Thunderbirds (11-12-0-1), who scored three times over the final 2:49 of the game to post their sixth victory over their last nine games. Calvin Pickard turned in a 42-save performance to record the win.
Taylor Vause notched a goal and an assist and Coda Gordon scored his 12th marker of the season for the Broncos (11-15-2-1), who close out their U.S. Division road trip with a 1-4 record. Jon Groenheyde made 30 saves in the defeat.
BLAZERS 4, ROYALS 3
JC Lipon’s ninth goal of the season, 14:54 into the third period, stood as the winner as the visiting Kamloops Blazers edged the Victoria Royals 4-3 on Tuesday.
Chase Schaber scored three goals and Brendan Ranford picked up four assists for the Blazers (17-7-1-0), who earn their third win in a row but remain one point back of Vancouver for top spot in the B.C. Division. Cole Cheveldave made 26 saves in the win.
Jamie Crooks scored twice and Logan Nelson tallied a goal and an assist for the Royals (11-15-0-1), who see their losing skid hit five games. Keith Hamilton made 26 saves in a losing cause.
