RAIDERS TOPPLE BLADES – Mike Winther scored a shorthanded goal and chipped in an assist to help the Prince Albert Raiders to a 5-2 win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League action on Thursday.
Mark McNeill and Kellan Tochkin each tallied a goal and an assist while Matt Waseylenko – with his first WHL marker – and Brandon Herrod also scored for the Raiders (14-22-1-2), who rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to post their fifth straight victory. Anthony Bardaro picked up two assists in his Raiders’ debut and Cole Holowenko turned in a 36-save effort to claim the victory.
Lukas Sutter and Duncan Siemens scored for the Blades (20-16-0-1), who were held scoreless on six power play chances as they drop their fifth straight decision. Alex Moodie stopped 27 of 32 shots to take the loss in his first WHL start.
TIGERS 5, HURRICANES 2
Hunter Shinkaruk scored and set up two more to pace the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday.
Trevor Cox, Kale Kessy, Matt Konan and Curtis Valk also scored for the Tigers (22-12-2-2), who were 2-for-9 on the power play in the contest as they earn their fourth straight victory. Tyler Bunz made 24 saves to claim his 21st win of the season.
Brady Ramsay and Sam Mckechnie scored for the Hurricanes (14-24-0-1), who drop their second straight decision and remain in sixth place in the Central Division. Damien Ketlo made 31 saves in a losing cause.
REBELS 4, ICE 2
Tyson Ness scored twice and set up another to lift the Red Deer Rebels to a 4-2 triumph over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Thursday.
Brooks Maxwell notched a goal and an assist and Stephen Hak also scored for the Rebels (17-17-0-3), who converted two of four power play chances as they move back to the .500 mark. Deven Dubyk made 31 saves to record the win.
Drew Czerwonka and Elgin Pearce scored for the Ice (22-11-1-2), who see a two-game winning streak come to an end. Nathan Lieuwen turned aside 21 of 25 shots he faced in the defeat.
AMERICANS 5, ROCKETS 1
Brendan Shinnimin scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 5-1 win over the visiting Kelowna Rockets on Thursday night.
Patrick Holland and Brian Williams also scored for the Americans (28-7-0-0), who stretch their winning streak to nine games and pad their lead to nine points over Portland for first place in the U.S Division. Ty Rimmer turned in a 33-save effort to claim his 16th win of the season.
Colton Sissons scored the only goal for the Rockets (14-18-2-3), who suffer their second loss in a row and seventh setback in 10 games. Adam Brown made 37 saves in the loss
