THURSDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP
LOWRY LEADS BRONCOS PAST HITMEN – Adam Lowry scored all three goals to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action on Thursday.
Taylor Vause and Brad Hoban each picked up two assists for the Broncos (21-22-0-1), who have won two straight since returning home from an 11-game stretch on the road. Mark Friesen made 24 saves to claim his 20th victory of the season.
Justin Kirsch scored his 19th of the season and added an assist while Cody Sylvester also scored for the Hitmen (12-26-2-1), who suffer their third straight setback on their East Division road trip. Michael Snider made 27 saves in a losing cause.
WARRIORS 4, ROCKETS 2
Spencer Edwards notched his 18th goal of the season as the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors doubled up the Kelowna Rockets 4-2 on Thursday night.
Joey Kornelsen, Sam Fioretti and Matt Grant also counted for the Warriors (25-14-0-2), who improve to 5-1 through six games of a seven-game western road trip. Thomas Heemskerk made 25 saves to record his 22nd win of the season.
Geordie Wudrick – with his 20th of the season – and Brett Bulmer scored for the Rockets (21-18-0-0), who suffer their third straight defeat but remain in second place in the B.C. Division. Adam Brown and Jordon Cooke combined for 30 saves in the loss.
