THURSDAY’S WHL PLAYOFF ROUND-UP

ROCKETS SHOOT DOWN T-BIRDS – Damon Severson scored two goals and four points as the Kelowna Rockets skated to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds in Game 1 of their Western Conference second-round series in WHL playoff action on Thursday.

Ryan Olsen and Cole Linaker each tallied a goal and an assist for the Rockets, who converted three of six power play chances in the series-opening victory.  Jordon Cooke turned aside 23 shots to claim his ninth career playoff win.

Mathew Barzal and Alex Delnov scored for the Thunderbirds, who trailed 3-1 after the opening period.

OIL KINGS 5, WHEAT KINGS 0

Edgars Kulda and Brett Pollock each tallied a goal and an assist whole Tristan Jarry made 15 saves to post a shutout as the Edmonton Oil Kings blanked the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 5-0 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference second-round match-up.  Edmonton outshot Brandon 45-15 while also going 2-for-7 on the man advantage in the Game 1 triumph.
