THURSDAY’S WHL PLAYOFF ROUND-UP
HITMEN DOUBLE UP REBELS – Brady Brassart scored his second hat trick of the post-season to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 4-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels in the opening game of their Husky WHL Eastern Conference semi-final series in WHL playoff action on Thursday.
Alex Roach also scored while Cody Sylvester picked up three assists for the Hitmen, who went 2-for-5 on the power play as they take the opening game of a series for the second straight round. Chris Driedger made 28 saves on 30 shots to backstop the Hitmen to the Game 1 win.
Dominik Volek and Turner Elson – with his fourth goal of the playoffs – scored for the Rebels, who were outscored 3-1 in the second period en route to the series-opening defeat. Patrik Bartosak stopped 29 of 33 shots in a losing cause.
