Sunday’s WHL Round-up
HITMEN DOUBLE UP BRONCOS – Kris Foucault and Tyler Fiddler scored 16 seconds apart midway through the second period as the Calgary Hitmen erased a 2-1 deficit to post a 4-2 win over the visiting Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League action on Sunday, November 8th.
Joel Broda – with a goal and an assist – and Austin Madaisky also scored for the Hitmen (16-5-0-0), who earn their third straight victory while stretching their home-ice win streak to six games. Michael Snider made 22 saves to claim his seventh victory of the season.
Brad Hoban notched a goal and an assist and Eric Doyle also counted for the Broncos (10-10-0-2), who drop their second straight decision and remain winless on the road this season. Morgan Clark made 32 saves in a losing cause.
PATS 6, RAIDERS 2
Jordan Eberle scored twice and Garrett Mitchell chipped in three assists as the Regina Pats defeated the visiting Prince Albert Raiders 6-2 on Sunday.
Matt Delahey – with a goal and an assist – Hampus Gustafsson, Graham Hood and Matt Strueby also scored for the Pats (9-9-2-0), who win their third straight contest and move back to the .500 mark. Dawson Guhle turned aside 33 of 35 shots to earn the win.
Fredrik Cedergren scored his first WHL goal and Brandon Herrod also counted for the Raiders (10-9-0-2), who drop their second straight decision to East Division opposition. Garrett Zemlak made 32 saves in the loss.
THUNDERBIRDS 4, BRUINS 1
Prab Rai scored twice and set up another to lead the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-1 win over the Chilliwack Bruins on Sunday.
Jeremy Schappert – with a goal and two assists – and Sena Acolatse also scored for the Thunderbirds (5-12-1-3), who snap a four-game losing skid. Calvin Pickard turned aside 23 of 24 shots he faced to backstop the T-Birds to the win.
Dylen McKinlay notched his 10th goal of the season for the Bruins (8-10-1-3), who have lost four of their last five games. Lucas Gore and Mark Friesen combined for 23 saves in the defeat.
GIANTS 4, OIL KINGS 2
James Henry broke a 2-2 tie 16:48 into the third period as the Vancouver Giants went on to post a 4-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday.
Lance Bouma notched a goal and an assist while Kevin Connauton and Mitch Spooner – with his first WHL goal – also scored for the Giants (13-6-1-2), who snap a two-game losing skid. Jamie Tucker made 19 saves, including stopping a first-period penalty shot, to record his 10th win of the season.
Michael St. Croix and Rhett Rachinski scored for the Oil Kings (7-11-2-3), who see their losing skid hit six games. Torrie Jung made 27 saves in a losing cause.
