WARRIORS BLAST WHEAT KINGS – Justin Kirsch scored twice and set up another and Quinton Howden chipped in three helpers to lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to an 8-2 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.
Cam Braes and James Henry each tallied a goal and two assists while Torrin White, Kenton Miller, Sam Fioretti and Cody Beach added singles for the Warriors (26-14-4-1), who snap a two-game losing skid and open up a two-point lead for top spot in the East Division. Luke Siemens made 29 saves in the win.
Eric Roy and Ryan Pulock scored for the Wheat Kings (22-20-1-2), who suffer their fourth straight loss and remain in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Curtis Honey and Brandon Anderson combined for 25 saves in a losing effort.
HITMEN 4, OIL KINGS 3
Jimmy Bubnick scored a pair of goals to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 4-3 win over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday.
Cody Sylvester scored the game-winner and added two assists while Calder Brooks notched his fourth goal of the season for the Hitmen (24-16-2-1), who rack up their seventh straight win and now sit just four points out of third place in the Eastern Conference. Brandon Glover made 24 saves to post his 13th win of the season.
Tyler Maxwell, Mitchell Moroz and Curtis Lazar scored for the Oil Kings (29-11-1-4), who went 1-for-4 on the power play as they see a modest two-game win streak snapped. Tristan Jarry made 35 saves in a losing cause.
BLADES 7, PATS 4
Matej Stransky scored twice and chipped in an assist to lead the visiting Saskatoon Blades to a 7-4 win over the Regina Pats on Sunday.
Jesse Paradis – with a goal and two assists – Lukas Sutter and Brent Benson also scored while Nick Zajac tallied his first WHL marker for the Blades (27-17-0-1), who record their fifth win in a row and sit just two points out of the East Division lead. Alex Moodie, a 16-year-old rookie, made 34 saves to pick up his fifth straight win.
Colton Jobke, Lyndon Martell, Martin Marincin and Lane Scheidl scored for the Pats (25-17-3-1), who fell behind 5-0 by the 7:17 mark of the second period en route to the defeat. Matt Hewitt made 18 saves in the loss.
ROCKETS 3, SILVERTIPS 2 S/O
Zach Franko scored the lone goal in a shootout to lift the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a 3-2 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday.
Colton Sissons – with his 23rd of the season – and Myles Bell scored while Brett Bulmer drew two assists in regulation for the Rockets (19-21-2-3), who earn their second win in as many nights. Jordon Cooke turned in a 39-save performance through regulation, and wasn’t beaten in the shootout to post the win.
Ryan Harrison and Reid Petryk scored for the Silvertips (8-27-1-8), who fall to 1-8 in games decided in a shootout this season. Austin Lotz turned aside 20 shots in regulation, but was beaten once in the shootout to take the loss.
