SUNDAY’S WHL PLAYOFF ROUND-UP

OIL KINGS UP 2-0 ON RAIDERS – Dysin Mayo notched a goal and an assist for a second straight game as the Edmonton Oil Kings posted a 3-1 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series in WHL playoff action on Sunday.

Riley Kieser and Luke Bertolucci also scored while Tristan Jarry made 31 saves for the Oil Kings, who got all three of their goals in a 7:26 span in the third period as they win for the second time in as many nights.  Cole Cheveldave made 29 saves in the loss for the Raiders.

WHEAT KINGS 8, PATS 4

Tim McGauley scored twice and set up another while Richard Nejezchleb picked up a goal and two assists as the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings doubled up the Regina Pats 8-4 in Game 2 of their opening-round series.  The Wheat Kings lead the series 2-0 and have scored 14 goals over the opening two contests.

ROCKETS 3, AMERICANS 1

Myles Bell scored for a second straight game while Jordon Cooke turned aside 24 of 25 shots to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 3-1 win over the visiting Tri-City Americans in Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round set.  Eric Comrie turned aside 44 of 47 shots he faced in the loss for the Americans.

ROYALS 4, CHIEFS 3  O/T

Logan Nelson potted the winner 2:18 into overtime as the Victoria Royals edged the visiting Spokane Chiefs 4-3 in Game 2 of their first-round Western Conference series on Sunday.  It’s the second straight overtime win to open the series for the Royals.

THUNDERBIRDS 3, SILVERTIPS 1

Roberts Lipsbergs scored and set up another to pace the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Everett Silvertips in Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round match-up.  Taran Kozun turned aside 26 of 27 shots to backstop the T-Birds to their second straight win in the series.
