Play by Play Memories from the Best in the Business

The hockey season is about to begin for the Chilliwack Bruins and they have just announced plans for another great Sports Celebrity Dinner presented in partnership with the Chilliwack Rotary Club.  This year’s event will be held on Monday, October 18th at the Tzeachten Community Centre.

The guests of honour will be Hockey Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jim Robson and Hockey Night in Canada’s Jim Hughson.  They are considered to be the best play by play commentators in the NHL, both yesterday and today.  Jim and Jim will be joined by Global BC personality Squire Barnes and will share a lifetime of hockey memories and insights.

Jim Robson handled play by play duties for the Vancouver Canucks from their start in 1970 for the next 30 years.  In the 1990s he passed the microphone to Jim Hughson, who has gone on to become the CBC’s lead hockey announcer.  Both men are outstanding ambassadors for the game and have gained respect for their broadcast excellence.

‘We are extremely lucky that these gentlemen are coming to Chilliwack’ said Rotarian Bill Coombes.  ‘This annual banquet gets great support and raises money for Rotary Community Projects along with the Bruins’ Player Education Fund.’  Darryl Porter of the Bruins adds ‘Our players will again be introduced during the dinner.  It’s a wonderful event and always a highlight for the team.  Jim Robson and Jim Hughson are so highly respected by everyone in the hockey business.’

Coombes also emphasized that the success of the event is a result of great sponsor support from Canadian Tire Chilliwack, the Jolly Miller Pub & Liquor Store, 89.5 The HAWK, Global BC and the Chilliwack Times.
