PATS HOST BRONCOS, LIVE ON SHAW
PATS HOST BRONCOS TO KICK OFF 2013-14 SEASON, LIVE ON SHAW – The Regina Pats take on the Swift Current Broncos for an East Division match-up as the 2013-14 WHL regular season begins on Thursday night.
Thursday’s WHL season opener between the Pats and Broncos can be seen live throughout western Canada on SHAW and SHAW Direct channel 299 (7:00pm CT).
The Pats are coming off a 2012-13 season that saw them finish 11th in the WHL Eastern Conference and in fifth place in the East Division. Look for 18-year-old Calgary Flames prospect Morgan Klimchuk to be the go-to guy for the Pats this season. Though currently sidelined with an injury, the Calgary, AB, product will aim to build on his 36 goals and 76 points from last year. The Pats managed a 1-3-0-1 record through five pre-season games this September.
The Broncos skated to a 36-29-3-4 record last season, led by 2013 WHL Player of the Year Adam Lowry. Though Lowry has moved on, the Broncos still boast plenty of talent to watch throughout the season, including 2014 NHL Draft-eligible defenceman Brycen Martin. Martin, a Calgary, AB, native, put up 19 points in 67 games as a 16-year-old rookie last season, and will be counted on to play a big role in the team’s defence this year. The Broncos went 4-4-0-0 through eight pre-season games in September.
The 2013-14 WHL regular season goes into full swing on Friday with eight games on the schedule, including the 2013 WHL Champion Portland Winterhawks hosting the Prince George Cougars.
SHAW will broadcast 32 WHL games during the 2013-14 WHL regular season. For the entire WHL on SHAW broadcast schedule, click HERE
