OIL KINGS TAKE ON KNIGHTS ON SUNDAY

London, ON – The Edmonton Oil Kings take on the London Knights in round robin action on Sunday at the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament in London, ON (Sportsnet; 5:00pm MDT).

Both the Oil Kings and Knights come into the game with 0-1 records through their first round robin contests.

The Oil Kings dropped their opening round robin contest with a 5-2 loss to the OHL Champion Guelph Storm on Saturday evening.  Special teams were the story in Edmonton’s opener, with the Storm netting a pair of power play goals and the Oil Kings going 0-for-5 on the man advantage.  The Oil Kings also gave up a shorthanded goal in the loss.

The Knights, the tournament’s host team, fell 1-0 to the QMJHL Champion Val D’Or Foreurs in the tournament opener on Friday night.  The Knights generated plenty of opportunities in the opener, but were stymied by a 51-save performance from Foreurs’ netminder Antoine Bibeau.

The contest is a match-up between the two most experienced Memorial Cup teams in the 2014 tournament.  Knights are making their third consecutive appearance at the tournament, having won the OHL Championship in 2012 and 2013, while the Oil Kings are making their second appearance in three years, having participated in the 2012 tournament.
