MONDAY’S WHL PLAYOFF ROUND-UP
ROYALS EDGE WINTERHAWKS – Patrik Polivka stood tall, making 38 saves on 39 shots to backstop the Victoria Royals to a 2-1 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks in Game 3 of their Western Conference second-round series in WHL playoff action on Monday night.
Brandon Magee and Austin Carroll scored power play goals in the opening period for the Royals, who now trail the best-of-seven series 1-2 after having dropped the first two games in Portland.
Taylor Leier broke Polivka’s shutout bid 19:46 into the third period with his third goal of the post-season for the Winterhawks, who were scoreless on four power play chances.
