Hitmen Defeat Ice in Overtime in Game 7
DUVAL ENDS OVERTIME THRILLER — 18-year-old forward Ian Duval scored the biggest goal of his WHL career when he beat Taylor Dakers on a partial breakaway 7:01 into overtime to lift the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 3-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice in the seventh and deciding game of their MNP Eastern Conference Quarter-Final series on Wednesday, April 4th at the RecPlex in Cranbrook, B.C.

rWith the overtime triumph, the Hitmen win the best-of-seven series four games to three and advance to the second round of the 2007 WHL playoffs.

rDylan Yeo and Brett Sonne scored in regulation for the Hitmen, who led 2-0 until late in the second period. Dan Spence turned in a solid 31-save performance to earn the biggest win in his three-year career with the Hitmen. Calgary will take on the Brandon wheat Kings in the MNP Eastern Conference Semi-Final, beginning Friday night in Brandon.

rSteve DaSilva – with his fourth and fifth goals of the series – had both markers for the Ice, while Ryan Russell chipped in two assists. Taylor Dakers turned in a valiant 33-save effort in a losing cause in what ended up being his final game in the WHL. With the Game 7 defeat, the Ice lose the best-of-seven series and see their season come to an end.
