FRIDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP

WHEAT KINGS EDGE PATS IN OVERTIME – Eric Roy scored on a power play 2:18 into overtime to lift the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings to a 4-3 win over the Regina Pats in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.

Peter Quenneville scored twice and set up another for the Wheat Kings, who win their second straight game and move two points up on Prince Albert and Red Deer for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.  Dawson MacAuley made 31 saves for the Pats, who clinch the East Division title with the point gained from the overtime loss.

RAIDERS 7, BLADES 2

Collin Valcourt scored twice and set up two more while Leon Draisaitl tallied a goal and three assists to hit the 100-point mark as the Prince Albert Raiders skated to a 7-2 win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades.  The win pulls the Raiders into a tie with Red Deer for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

HITMEN 5, ICE 4  S/O

Jake Virtanen scored in the sixth round of a shootout to lift the visiting Calgary Hitmen to a 5-4 victory over the Kootenay Ice on Friday.  The win moves the Hitmen into a tie with Edmonton for first place in the Eastern Conference, while the loss for Kootenay leaves them tied with Swift Current for fifth place in the conference.

BRONCOS 5, WARRIORS 4

Jay Merkley scored twice, including his 33^rd goal of the season, as the Swift Current Broncos edged the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 on Friday.

Liam Stewart scored the shootout winner and Mitch Holmberg scored his franchise record-breaking 147^th career goal as the Spokane Chiefs got by the visiting Tri-City Americans 4-3.  The win moves the Chiefs into a tie with Seattle for fourth place in the Western Conference.

SILVERTIPS 5, ROYALS 3

Ivan Nikolishin scored and set up two more as the visiting Everett Silvertips posted their eighth straight victory with a 5-3 win over the Victoria Royals.  The victory leaves Everett just one point back of Spokane and Seattle for fourth place in the Western Conference.

ROCKETS 6, GIANTS 5

Madison Bowey and Justin Kirkland each scored twice as the Kelowna Rockets built up a 6-1 lead and held on for a 6-5 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Friday.  Jackson Whistle made 29 saves to claim the victory over his former Club.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored twice and picked up two assists to lead the visiting Portland Winterhawks to a 5-2 triumph over the Seattle Thunderbirds.  The T-Birds have lost two straight and now sit tied with Spokane for fourth place in the Western Conference.
