FRIDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP

RAIDERS EDGE ICE – Jayden Hart’s seventh goal of the season, netted 6:50 into the third period, stood as the winner as the Prince Albert Raiders downed the visiting Kootenay Ice 3-2 in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.

Chance Braid and Josh Morrissey also scored and Cole Cheveldave made 28 saves for the Raiders, who win their second straight contest.  Tim Bozon scored both goals for the Ice, who suffer their second straight loss on the road.

WHEAT KINGS 6, BLADES 2

Tim McGauley scored two goals and Ryan Pulock notched a goal and two assists to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-2 win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Friday.  It’s the second straight win for the Wheat Kings over the Blades, having won 5-2 in Saskatoon on Wednesday.

HITMEN 3, BRONCOS 2

Radel Fazleev scored the winner in a shootout as the Calgary Hitmen edged the visiting Swift Current Broncos 3-2 on Friday.  Kenton Helgesen sent the game to overtime with the tying goal in the final minute of the third period for Calgary, which snaps a four-game losing skid.  The Broncos, meanwhile, see their nine-game win streak halted.

REBELS 4, WARRIORS 2

Rookie Meyer Nell scored his first WHL goal to help the Red Deer Rebels double up the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 4-2 on Friday.  Dominik Volek netted his seventh goal of the season for the Rebels, who win their third straight while handing Moose Jaw its fourth straight defeat.

CHIEFS 5, COUGARS 2

Mitch Holmberg scored twice and set up two more for his sixth four-point outing of the season as the Spokane Chiefs managed a 5-2 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars on Friday night.  Eric Williams made 24 saves to earn the win for the Chiefs, who have won four of their last six games.

AMERICANS 5, PATS 3

Brian Williams scored his 17^th and 18^th goals of the season to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 5-3 win over the visiting Regina Pats on Friday.  The Ams improve to 9-2-0-1 over their last 12 games with the win while the Pats fall to 3-2-0 through five games of an eight-game road trip.

ROYALS 2, THUNDERBIRDS 1  O/T

Logan Nelson scored 52 seconds into overtime to lift the Victoria Royals to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday in Victoria, BC.  Coleman Vollrath made 21 saves on 22 shots to earn his third straight win.  Branden Troock had the only goal for the T-Birds, who drop their sixth straight contest.

GIANTS 3, TIGERS 2

Jackson Houck netted his 10^th goal of the season as the Vancouver Giants used a 3-goal first period to lift them to a 3-2 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday.  Jared Rathjen made 32 saves for the Giants, who have won two of their last three games.  Miles Koules scored for the Tigers, who see a four-game win streak snapped.

SILVERTIPS 3, WINTERHAWKS 2

Tyler Sandhu scored twice and Austin Lotz made 26 saves as the Everett Silvertips snuck past the visiting Portland Winterhawks 3-2 on Friday.  The ‘Tips improve to 9-1-2 over their last 12 games while the Hawks drop their third decision in five games.
