COUGARS’ GABRIELLE NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Jesse Gabrielle has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 25th, 2015.
Gabrielle collected seven points (5g-2a) in four games to help the Prince George Cougars earn a record of 3-1-0-0 for the week.
On Tuesday, October 20th against the Calgary Hitmen, Gabrielle scored a pair of goals to earn third star honours in the Cougars 5-2 victory. The following night, Gabrielle again had a multi-goal game in which he scored twice to propel the Cougars to a 5-0 victory against the Hitmen. On Friday, October 23rd against the Kelowna Rockets, Gabrielle tallied an assist in the Cougars 5-2 loss. On Sunday, October 25th, Gabrielle recorded a goal and an assist as the Cougars defeated the Vancouver Giants by a score of 3-1.
The 18-year-old Moosomin, SK native has notched 11 points (9g-2a) in 11 games with the Cougars this season to go along with a plus-4 rating. The 6-0, 200 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign and first with Prince George. Gabrielle has amassed 81 points (44g-37a) in 128 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Adin Hill of the Portland Winterhawks for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Hill, a 1996-born netminder from Calgary, AB, posted three wins to go along with a 1.33 goals against average and a .966 save percentage with two shutouts. On Friday, October 23rd, Hill turned aside all 31 shots he faced to pick up the shutout in the Winterhawks 2-0 road victory against the Everett Silvertips. Hill was named the game’s first star. The following night, Hill had a solid outing as he made 38 saves to guide the Winterhawks to a 5-4 win against the Tri-City Americans. On Sunday, October 25th, Hill recorded another terrific game in goal as he turned aside 45 shots against the Brandon Wheat Kings to lift the Winterhawks to a 5-0 win. Hill earned his second shutout in three starts while claiming first star honours. Currently in his second season with the Winterhawks, Hill has posted a 40-15-1-0 record with five shutouts in 59 career WHL regular season appearances.
