CIS CANADA-WEST CONFERENCE REPORT – University of Manitoba Bisons forward Paul Deniset is the Canada-West Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 27th.

rDeniset, a product of Winnipeg, MB, scored six goals this weekend to help the Bisons to a 2-0 sweep of the Regina Cougars in the best-of-three Canada-West Great Plains division semi-finals.

rOn Friday, Deniset scored twice in the Bison’s 5-1 victory over the Cougars. He followed up with a four-goal performance on Saturday as the Bisons downed the Cougars 9-6 to complete the sweep.

rDeniset, 23, played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Kamloops, Swift Current, Vancouver and Prince Albert.

rElsewhere, the University of Calgary Dinos swept their best-of-three Canada-West Mountain division semi-final series with the UBC Thunderbirds this weekend.

rFormer Tri-City American, Red Deer Rebel and Lethbridge Hurricane Riley Layden notched three assists in Friday’s 6-0 Dinos’ win and added another helper in Saturday’s 3-2 series-winning victory.

rThe University of Alberta Golden Bears host the Dinos next weekend in the best-of-three Mountain division final, while the University of Saskatchewan Huskies welcome the Bisons in the Great Plains division final.
