CANADA-WEST CONFERENCE REPORT – University of Alberta Golden Bears freshman goaltender Aaron Sorochan has been named the Canada-West Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending January 29th.

rSorochan, an Edmonton, AB product, went 2-0 while allowing just thwo goals and posting a .962 save percentage in the Golden Bears’ weekend sweep of the powerhouse University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

rThe first-year Open Studies student made 24 saves on Friday as the Bears downed the Huskies 3-1 in Edmonton, then followed up with a 26-save performance on Saturday as the Golden Bears beat the Huskies 3-1 to complete the sweep and vault the Golden Bears past the Huskies into first place in the Canada-West Conference.

rIt’s the second time in January Sorochan has earned Canada-West Hockey Player of the Week honors. He earned the honor for the week ending January 8th as well.

rThe 21-year-old netminder played five seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Prince Albert Raiders, Vancouver Giants and Lethbridge Hurricanes and ranks second on the WHL’s all-time list in career games played (225) and minutes played (12,386) by a goaltender.
