CANADA-WEST CONFERENCE REPORT – University of Alberta Golden Bears freshman goaltender Aaron Sorochan has been named the Canada-West Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 8th.

rSorochan, an Edmonton, AB product, went 2-0 while allowing just three goals and posting a .948 save percentage in the Golden Bears’ weekend sweep of the University of Calgary Dinos.

rThe first-year Open Studies student made 27 saves on Friday as the Bears downed the Dinos 4-2 in Calgary, then followed up with a 28-save performance on Saturday as the Golden Bears beat the Dinos 3-1 for another road win.

rSorochan is undefeated in his last eight starts, boasting a 7-0-1 record since November 18th, and currently ranks second among Canada-West goaltenders in goals-against average.

rThe 21-year-old netminder played five seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Prince Albert Raiders, Vancouver Giants and Lethbridge Hurricanes and ranks second on the WHL’s all-time list in career games played (225) and minutes played (12,386) by a goaltender.
