Canada West Update
CANADA WEST CONFERENCE REPORT – University of Calgary Dinos Freshman forward Jared Aulin is the Canada West Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending January 6th.

rAulin, a Calgary, AB, product, scored six goals and eight points in two games on the weekend to lead the Dinos to a two-game sweep of the U.B.C Thunderbirds in Vancouver.

rOn Friday, January 4th, the 6′ 0â, 195-lb Open Studies student notched three goals and an assist as the Dinos skated to a 6-3 victory over the Thunderbirds. Aulin followed up with his second straight hat trick and an assist on Saturday as the Dinos completed the series sweep with an 8-6 triumph over the T-Birds.

rAulin, who played for the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League, is on a torrid scoring pace, netting nine goals and 17 points in his first six games of the season for the Dinos.

rThe 25-year-old played 17 games in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings during the 2002-03 season, and has spent the majority of the last five seasons in the American Hockey League.

rElsewhere in Canada West action on the weekend, the University of Alberta Golden Bears swept a two-game series versus the visiting Manitoba Bisons, outscoring the Bison 14-2 in the process.

rOn Friday night, former Tri-City Americans star Ian McDonald scored three times and fellow WHL grad Harlan Anderson added a pair to lead the Golden Bears to an 8-1 win over the Bisons. Former Prince George Cougar Chris Falloon had the lone goal for the Bisons.

rOn Saturday night, McDonald and former Portland Winter Hawk Brian Woolger each scored twice as the Golden Bears cruised to a 6-1 win over the Bisons.

rAlso on the weekend, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies blanked the Regina Cougars twice as they swept a two-game home-and-home series.

rOn Friday night, former WHL netminder Russel Monette made 18 saves to record the shutout while WHL grads Trent Adamus and Curtis Austring scored as the visiting Huskies managed a 2-0 win over the Cougars in Regina.

rOn Saturday, WHL grad Jeff Harvey made 25 saves and Adamus and Austring each scored again as the Huskies blanked the Cougars 4-0 in Saskatoon.
