CANADA SHUTS DOWN CZECH REPUBLIC
CANADA BLANKS CZECH REPUBLIC – Mark Stone of the Brandon Wheat Kings scored his fourth goal in two games to help lead Canada to a 5-0 shutout win over the Czech Republic in round-robin action on Wednesday at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Brett Connolly, a former Prince George Cougar, scored his second goal of the tournament for Canada, who also got two goals from Mark Scheifele and a goal and an assist from Ryan Strome.
Scot Wedgewood stopped all 26 shots he faced to record the shutout for Canada, who improves to 2-0 in round-robin play in the tournament.
Petr Mrazek made 33 saves in the loss for the Czech Republic. The Czech team features three WHL players including defensemen David Musil of the Vancouver Giants and Marek Hrbas of the Kamloops Blazers, and forward Dominik Uher of the Spokane Chiefs.
Canada continues round-robin play at the 2012 World Junior Championships on Thursday versus Denmark.
