Winterhawks ink top prospect Jarvis
The Portland Winterhawks announced the signing of 2017 first-round selection Seth Jarvis to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement late last week.
Jarvis, a product of Winnipeg, Man., was selected 11th overall by the Winterhawks in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. He was also the first player from Manitoba to be selected in the draft last May.
The forward spent the 2015-16 season with the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Monarchs, where he scored 48 goals and 69 points in 29 games. In nine playoff games, Jarvis scored 12 goals and 19 points.
Playing with the Rink Hockey Academy Bantam Prep last season, he tallied an impressive 42 goals and 66 points in 30 games. He also played six games with the Rink Hockey Academy Prep of the CSSHL, scoring two goals.
“Seth is a player who our scouts had rated at the top of the 2002 class,” said Portland Winterhawks vice president, general manager & head coach Mike Johnston. “After seeing him at our training camp as coaches we believe he could be as good as any of the top forwards we have had in the last few years.”
