Winterhawks acquire MacKenzie from Rebels for draft pick
The Portland Winterhawks and Red Deer Rebels made a deal Monday, sending forward Lukus MacKenzie (1999) to the U.S. Division in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
MacKenzie, a 6-foot-2, 203-pound product of Calgary, Alta. was previously acquired by the Rebels from the Saskatoon Blades earlier in the year. In 17 games with the Rebels, McKenzie had four assists.
Drafted by the Blades in the third round, 60th overall, of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, MacKenzie has appeared in 138 WHL regular season games, recording 28 points (8G-20A) including one short-handed goal and one game-winning goal.
The Winterhawks are in action Tuesday, January 9 (7:05 p.m. PST), taking to the road to face the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Rebels are also on the road Tuesday, January 9 (7:00 p.m. MST) travelling south to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
